Riding Equipment
Horse back riding is a sport for all seasons, where students
of all body builds, age groups, and athletic ability can be successful
in a riding program. The only specialized equipment is a riding
helmet (loans may be available from the barn), as well as boots
that have a firm sole and low heel.
Schedule and Fees
Our lesson program offers great flexibility, and can accommodate
a variety of schedules. Lessons can be booked privately or as a

Equine
Canada - Rider Level Program
Equine Canada
is in the process of updating their rider level program from a 3
level system to a 10 level system similar to the Pony Club Structure.
At Evergreen, we are able to accomodate both programs during the
transition phase (thru 2006), and will work with our students to
best accomodate their needs. The three level system is described
below - while the 10 level system, breaks the requirements into
smaller segments.
Rider
Level I
This level provides knowledge and experience in basic riding
techniques including horse anatomy, cleaning and grooming, bedding
and feeding, hoof care, tack knowledge, riding rules and practice
with proper riding aids. The rider will be trained to ride 3 gaits
(walk, trot and canter), with good rider position and balance.
Rider Level II
Rider Level II involves intermediate instruction involving
detailed knowledge of the evolution and history of the horse, the
horse skeleton, how a horse moves and natural balance during riding.
Horse management includes the digestive system, exercise, preventative
medicine and first aid. Riding covers halt,
walk, rein-back, rising trot, transitions, half-halts, and change
of leads.
Rider Level III & Specialized Instruction
For students with a keen interest and ability higher level
instruction is offered. This training could involve dressage, jumping,
preparation for the show circuit – and may be customized to individual
requirements.
